Willaston had a pretty good day out at Freeling winning three out of the four games played. We start with our Friday night lads who played a really good game. The boys had a lot of good passes and ran with the use of slick handballs and accurate kicking. Hayden Gray played an awesome game taking marks and getting plenty of the ball. Alister also played well with good kicking and a skilful snap for goal.

The Under 13s played a disappointing game compared to the last time the two sides played. The boys were outsmarted and that proved to be the difference in the game. The positive is that it is a simple fix and can be worked on during the week at training. The boys will come back better next week and will be eager to rejoin the winners list.

Our Under 15s put in a great team effort resulting in a great win. Willaston opened the account with the first three goals of the quarter. Midfield managed to get on top setting up the forward line with several different goal kickers. The back line stood up with a tight defence. All in all it was a great team effort from the lads.

Our Under 17s also had a fantastic win against Freeling with the boys jumping out of the blocks putting the opposition under pressure from the first bounce. It was a great four quarter effort by the whole side with a well deserved win.

Our B grade’s game was another must win to keep our hopes alive coming up to finals. First half was pretty scrappy but once settled players like Johnathan Hurst and Curtis Marks opened up the game and that let the rest of the team to play flow on football. Coach Max Bornholdt was happy with the win and commented that it was a good team effort.

Our A grade had a tough day at Freeling. The first half we dominated but inaccurate kicking kept Freeling in the game. The second half Freeling stepped up a gear and kicked truly to finish the day giving us a football lesson. Congratulations to Leighton Mells and Lee Sutton for their debut game for the A grade.

Next week is a bye weekend for our club except for our Under 13s who will be playing at Nuriootpa.
