He is competing in the singleski class.
“I would have done it lastyear but I broke my hand,” hesaid.
“It was frustrating becauseof how good the water levelswere.”
In the 2013 Avon Descent,Mr McMahon finished secondlast after another strike of badluck.
He had a hole in his boatwhich saw him stop at lastnine or 10 times, yet he perseveredthrough it all.
As such he is confident hecan put in a better showingthis year.
Mr McMahon has beentraining in Perth, recentlycompleting a 45-kilometrepaddle from Canning Bridgeto Rowe Highway.
He has also been paddling11 kilometres to Burlong andswimming as part of hispreparation.
“The first 17 kilometreswill be hell,” he said.
“The shallow water is hardto paddle in, however I ammore prepared this time.
“I would be happy just tofinish.”
