IT is the time of year when dirt bike rides descend on the village of North Star for a trailride of epic proportions.
However this year’s 10th annual North Star Trailride has unfortunately been cancelled due to the large rainfall we have experienced throughout the region.
The committee decided the event would not be postponed as it takes months of preparation to have all the resources in place to ensure a safe, well-run event.
The event was cancelled after 80 mm was recorded from early Wednesday morning.
Once the decision to cancel the event was made the committee spent the rest of the day getting the message out as riders were coming from Victoria to North Queensland and everywhere in between.
“A few people turned up on Wednesday night and Thursday morning, but with 3100 hits on the Facebook Page and a reach of 28,000 on social media, most people received the message,” said organiser Jeff Nixon.
“Wakes” were held in loving memory of the Trailride to make the most of the food and beverages that would otherwise have gone to waste.
Visit the North Star Trailride Website and Facebook pages for information regarding next year’s event.
The annual non-competitive tailride will return in all its glory and to much anticipation in 2016.
