The Cats started the game with great intensity whenever West got possession of the ball it was under enormous pressure.

The wind proved to be a major skill factor, but against the run of play, West still managed to score the first goal of the game.

The Hawks played some impressive football, with plenty of run straight through the middle and hitting leading forwards on the chest.

Solomontown found opportunities to goal but couldn’t convert on the scoreboard during the first term.

The Cats’ Darrell McIntyre goaled from the boundary for the first of the second quarter to keep his side in the contest.

Hawk Scott Foulis was forced to come from the ground with the blood rule, which proved little respite for the visitors.

The home side began getting on top halfway through the second quarter, finishing with the final three goals of the term.

Solomontown tried to wrestle the momentum back from West, but Hayden Warren dribbled through a goal early in the third quarter to keep the momentum on the Hawks’ side.

West dominated the quarter but failed to make it count on the scoreboard.

Great ruck work from Solomontown found Kaleb Head, who made it count, adding the second goal in succession for the Cats.

But a quick reply from West with a mark in the goal square to Nathanial Schmerl and another from Corey Singleton two minutes later kept the Hawks in control.

Sollies looked cooked when Hayden Warren took matters into his own hands during the final term.

A high kick in hope in his direction was strongly marked and kicked straight through the middle, before Warren’s team-mates showed great composure to find him again on the lead 45-metres out on a slight angle.

His six goals and Sollies’ inaccuracy in front of the big sticks proved to be the biggest differences between the sides.
