INVERELL Hawks and Moree Boomerangs both scored wins on Saturday, with the Hawks winning a tough game against the Ashford Roosters 32-8 and the Boomerangs taking out Glen Innes.
The wins will put both sides in a confident frame of mind when the two teams clash at Varley Oval this weekend in a ‘must win’ game for both sides. The Hawks are on top of the ladder, but their position there comes down to points for and against, and club president Garry Lavender is hoping the home game advantage will help get the Hawks over the line.
“She’ll be all on, I should imagine. It just depends on who turns up to play football, I think.
“If we win we virtually cement a place art the top. If we lose, well, we don’t want to go down that track really.”
Lavender said he thought the Hawks could win the game.
“We have the side, and I’m pretty sure the boys can get over the top of them,” he said.
“We’ll go in quietly confident, but as I said, they’ll have to play football, that’s all there is to it.”
The Armidale Rams moved into outright fourth spot last week with Ashford’s loss to the Hawks, but bearing in mind the good shake the Roosters gave the Boomerangs when they played them at Ashford a few weeks ago, an Ashford win this weekend would see them in the final four.
