WINNER: Port Augusta 8-ball champion Anthony Grantham during his win at Cooinda Club last weekend. ANTHONY Grantham took out the singles grand final at the Port Augusta Eight Ball Association Grand Final at the Cooinda Club last weekend.
Grantham defeated Mick Freeman in a tight contest 4-1 in the best of seven match.
However, the final score failed to show how closely fought the frames were, with both players making mistakes only rarely.
In the Scotch Doubles, Mark Myers and Darren Strawbridge (both from Centrals WOFTAM) played against Clay Weidenbach and Brenton Schulz (both from Flinders Dynamite) in a best-of-seven match format.
All of the frames saw plenty of tactical play, with eventual victors Weidenbach and Schulz coming out on top 4-2.
The junior’s competition saw Tim Allport and Zac Packard compete for the trophy in what were fantastic matches.
In a best-of-nine format, Tim went on to win 5-3, which saw him successfully win the Junior’s Title back-to-back.
The team finals got underway at the completion of the singles.
The two top teams over the duration of the division one season played off in final.
The Flinders Sharks had the wood over the Dynamite, winning two of their three encounters throughout the season.
This didn’t prove to play on the mind of Flinders Dynamite, who went on to win the final 8-4 in what was a fantastic showing of skill.
The division two final saw Centrals Red play Cooinda Ferals.
After beating the Cooinda Ferals only two week earlier, Centrals Red was looking to have the mental edge.
The Cooinda Ferals came out firing in the first few frames to hold a three-frame advantage.
However, Centrals Red won the next few frames to be back in contention before a couple of brilliant frames were won by the Cooinda Ferals to win 8-5.
The presentations rewarded the winners, but also saw awards go to those achieving the best individual results at the regular season’s end.
Shaun McCarrick from the Flinders Sharks took out the highest point scorer (most wins) award for the season after another brilliant year having won 71 of 98 frames.
Anthony Grantham won the Highest Percentage award after going through the season with a percentage of 92.19, and winning 59 out of 64 frames.
